Daintiest Thing Ball 2016
On January 14, 2016, during the official Baker Street Irregulars Weekend in NYC, we presented the fourth annual Daintiest Thing Under a Bonnet Charity Ball, a banquet benefiting Disabled American Veterans Trust in honor of all our courageous men and women in uniform. We owe inspiration for this event to those who tirelessly serve our country, & to Dr. John Watson, army doctor, whose recovery from the ravages of the 2nd Afghan War once required the help of an extraordinary friend.
It was hosted at the historic Player’s Club in New York City with a pyjama party theme in honor of the rediscovered William Gillette film. It featured an auction of Sherlockian swag (artwork, rare books, crafts), a quiz, a raffle, a costume competition, and live music. It was also hosted by William Gillette.
Together we raised $10,000 and 100% of proceeds from the ball benefited the Disabled American Veterans Trust, http://cst.dav.org/. We changed out charity after The Wounded Warrior Project’s spending practices were called into question. We wanted to be sure the money raised went to those who needed it.
As of February 19, 2016 that brought our three year total to an amazing $26,000 raised for disabled and wounded veterans. We cannot thank all of you who have contributed towards our charity balls these past four years enough. Whether you bought tickets, bid on items, donated items, or entered into a multi-thousand dollar bid war, you have helped us do this and you should be very proud.
