SherlockeDCC 2013
San Diego Comic Con is the Mecca of geekdom every year as tens of thousands descend on the convention that promises sneak-peeks, exclusives, tons of swag, and parties galore. However, it was missing something… a Sherlock presence! Up until recently (majorly in part to the dramatic rise in fame of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman), Sherlock was a cult hit in the USA. It’s safe to say it is mainstream now as people camped out overnight to get into the very first Sherlock panel. What luck for us, The Baker Street Babes, Being Geek Chic, The Nerdy Girlie, SherlockDC, and Cara McGee, as we were throwing a Sherlock party! On the evening of July 18th, 2013, Sherlock ruled Gaslamp.
With the combination of ticket sales, a successful IndieGoGo campaign, and sponsors, we were able to sell out our venue at the Brick + Mortar in downtown San Diego with 400 attendees. Custom themed drinks, swag bags, a raffle full of goodies including a signed script of ‘A Scandal In Belgravia,’ a photo booth, and a game station provided by intel, SherlockeDCC was a rocking success. And that was before co-creators Steven Moffat & Mark Gatiss plus Executive Producer Sue Vertue came by.
SherlockeDCC was also attended by members of PBS and BBC Worldwide. It was sponsored by intel, 221B Con, Graphic Lab Tees, Random Realities, and the Mystery Loves Company Bookshop. Also we trended on twitter. Hot damn.
